Even though the reboot of “Ghostbusters” has made some rather drastic changes to the base plot, it looks like it’s also going to have some similarities with the originals and fans are going to see some familiar faces. Ernie Hudson has reportedly been added to the cast recently, and fans immediately jumped to discussions about the implications of this – are we going to see him in the same role as before, or is he going to be playing someone else?
The story is a bit strange since his original role was as one of the Ghostbusters themselves, and since the team got an all new identity – along with a gender change – in the new film, fans are generally confused about the possibility of seeing him in his old original role. Of course, it’s entirely possible that he might reprise it, as there have been hints that the Ghostbusters from the previous films will be featured in the new one as well, although we don’t know any details about that and the whole situation with the plot of the sequel is still a bit blurry for most fans.
The last that we’ve heard about Ernie Hudson and his possible involvement with the film was that he was reportedly spotted on the set of the new film around the end of the shooting, although there was no information about his actual role and what he was doing there. It’s possible that he was just visiting out of curiosity for the production, but of course it’s much more likely that he’s actually involved and will possibly have a somewhat important role, too.
There have been reports about other original Ghostbusters joining the cast of the new film as well, such as Bill Murray – but in the case of Murray, it was also claimed that the actor would not be reprising his original role and will be playing a different character instead.
Because of this, most fans are convinced that Ernie Hudson will be in a similar situation, playing a new character and not his original Ghostbuster Winston Zeddemore. It would still be a good reference to the old films if they included some of the actors in there, even if they played different roles, although fans have been hopeful for a more direct reference to the previous films instead of these inside jokes.
Of course, we should keep in mind that this is a reboot in the end, which means that everything that was established until now goes out of the window and the whole setup is being replaced. This means new characters, a new plot, and most probably a new setting as well. While some fans have been skeptical of this idea and seem to be of the opinion that it’s a bad move to reboot a classic such as “Ghostbusters”, there is also a lot of positivity towards the reboot and many people expect it to be pretty successful if the production value is high enough.
And from everything we’ve heard about the new film so far, it definitely does sound like it will be a high-value production and should be pretty satisfying to everyone who loved the original. Sure, some of those changes are a bit strange and might take some time to get used to – but in the end, it might turn out that this is an even better formula that propels the franchise into the future and sets an even better trend for it.
