There’s no doubt that the upcoming reboot of “Ghostbusters” is going to generate a lot of buzz once it comes out, as the film already enjoys a lot of attention from fans of the franchise all over the Internet. There are lots of discussions about the general direction the producers have taken, and the general consensus is that the film has a lot of potential if it’s handled right. And as can be expected, there are also lots of rumors going around, some of which actually sound quite interesting.
Among those are some claims that the film could have actually been a part of a double release, with the second film featuring an all-male cast. That would have made it much closer to the originals, and it could have also opened the doors to some interesting balances between the different actors from both films.
It’s not clear why the production was canceled, but at this point it seems that the female reboot of the franchise is the only one coming to the screen. Perhaps it’s not out of the question that Sony might decide to follow through on those original plans later on if this release ends up successful, but there is a lot of time for them to make that decision.
There is also some speculation among fans – and certain critics as well – that the film might not have actually been canceled. Even though official accounts related to the story have been disappointing, there are some claims that the people behind the production have an active interest in keeping it under wraps, and because of that we’re not going to hear much about it until they’re ready to present it to the public.
But with names like Channing Tatum and various other prominent celebrities allegedly attached to the project, it would be very difficult to conceal it for a long time if it’s happening indeed. With that in mind, if there are no more news or plausible rumors on the horizon in the next couple of months, it would probably be safe to assume that the project has been canceled. Or at least put on hold for the time being, which could be close enough given the fast-moving nature of Hollywood.
Meanwhile, predictions about the success of the upcoming film are mixed. Some fans and critics are convinced that it has a strong potential and the producers are going to realize it properly, but there are also some more skeptical voices in the crowds.
According to some, the studio shouldn’t have moved away from the original formula so much, and the use of an all-female cast seems more like a gimmick rather than a decision that will have a meaningful impact. Still, there is a lot that can be done by the producers to put a cast of characters like that to good use, so we trust that the people behind this film have some clever ideas up their sleeves.
It does sound like the film will be interesting to fans of the originals in certain ways at least, as it will feature a cameo appearance by Bill Murray among other things. According to reports, Murray himself had expressed interest in taking part in the production, and he was actually excited to be given this opportunity. If the star was feeling so optimistic about the potential of the new “Ghostbusters”, there might be some strong potential behind the film indeed.
