Michael didn’t have a clean public image. He disclosed to being gay in 1998 after getting arrested in Beverly Hills, California while engaging in a lewd sexual act. He wrote a song about the incident, and it depicted a men’s washroom turned discotheque along with police officers kissing.

In 2006 George Michael pleaded guilty in a case of driving under the influence of the substance and was again warned for possessing drugs including crack cocaine. This wouldn’t be the last time that Michael had a brush with the law. In 2010 he crashed his Range Rover after driving under the influence of drugs.

Michael released his single White Light after a bout of pneumonia. He was treated in Vienna and even came out to bid goodbye to his fans since he didn’t know if he would survive the phase. The singer was working on a new album with producer Naughty Boy.

George Michael had also started work on a documentary based on his musical journey, beginning with Wham! He had asked his fans to send him their photos and videos of his concerts and performance. The film titled Freedom was supposed to release in 2016 but was postponed to March 2017.
