But, interestingly enough, they not only chose to keep working on the games, but have actually been maintaining the original gameplay style more or less intact instead of taking any serious risks. And, contrary to what most players might expect, this has actually been working out in the franchise’s favor for the most part.
This just goes to show how important it is to understand one’s audience, as gamers can be very pretentious when it comes to changing a beloved franchise they’ve grown to know and enjoy in a certain way.
Sometimes, all a series needs to move on is just a release that captures all of its best features. The people behind “Gears of War 4” were clearly well aware of that fact, and because of this, we wouldn’t be surprised if they took this even further in their future work on the series.
In other words, we somewhat suspect that the next “Gears of War” game will also come with relatively few changes to the formula. Players have made it clear that they like it this way, and the developers would be silly to force any changes on their community for practically no reason at this point, especially when the games currently profit them so much with every release.
