Now, the franchise is apparently going to move into other forms of media as well, as there are talks of a film currently in production at Universal studios.
If the claims are true, hopefully the film will be done in a tasteful way and won’t be a quick cash grab that exploits the popular, recognizable name of the franchise. It wouldn’t be the first time something like this has happened, after all.
Some fans are also worried that a poorly realized film adaptation could spell disaster for the game franchise itself. If gamers who’ve never played the series go to the cinema and see a badly produced movie, they might get the wrong idea about the games themselves.
But it will probably take a while before we see any serious talks about that project, so fans should just be patient and remember that the people behind “Gears of War” love their franchise as much as fans do. They are not going to let it get ruined for a quick cash grab, not when they have such a solid position on the gaming market thanks to that franchise.
There is a lot of value in that IP, and everyone behind it should know that very well, which is why we don’t expect them to just give up the rights to any random film producer that easily.
