It’s also interesting to note how the cover system that some have described as clichéd in the past few years works so well in “Gears of War 4”. The game was expected to have issues in this regard, and possibly feel slow and monotonous, but it actually feels like a fresh break from the average shooter on the market right now.
All in all, it’s easy to see where the developers of the game were coming from when they wanted to focus more heavily on monetizing it, but it seems to be working against them to a large extent, so they will hopefully revise their plans and make appropriate changes.
We expect to see some updates to the game in the coming weeks, addressing this and some of the minor gameplay issues that players have brought up since the game has come out.
If that happens, “Gears of War 4” can easily remain in history as one of the best releases on the action market in a while, and it could revive some classic trends in game development that have been dormant for a while.
Much like “Call of Duty 4” generated so much interest in modern military shooters before, we wouldn’t be surprised to see something similar with “Gears of War 4” and its cover system. Other mechanics used in the game can easily find their way to the rest of the market too, and all in all, it can be quite the inspirational title for many developers.
