The third-person shooter video game “Gears of War 4” is set to make its debut on the Xbox One and the PC on October 11 and game developer The Coalition is ironing out some kinks on the controller balancing of the game for the PC.
Unlike in the Xbox One which only uses a controller, “Gears of War 4” in the PC could have a controller, or a keyboard and mouse for the player to be able to play the game.
Ryan Cleven, lead multiplayer designer of The Coalition for “Gears of War 4” said that ensuring that all types of controls in playing the game for the PC is really important to them, reports Gamespot.
He explained that they have definitely work from the controller out. While they play with mouse and keyboard at times, the core of the game is still the controller.
Cleven added that they are not giving one or the other a priority though as all types of game controls are important to them. However, they had to make sure that the controller experience is definitely perfect when it finally comes out of the Xbox One and the PC because the feature has been the legacy of the “Gears of War” franchise.
Cleven said that The Coalition does not really balance the PC versus the Xbox One as each sort of balances themselves independently. He explained that both platforms use the same core tuning so when PC players go up against each other, they can choose to use a mouse and keyboard or they can use a controller.
On the Xbox One, he said that they tune the game internally with a controller, so everything is balanced that way and they also make sure that the two groups playing competitively online are not actually playing with each other.
A predominantly Xbox-exclusive game
The “Gears of War” is a predominantly Xbox-exclusive franchise because it has for its publisher Microsoft Studios.
In fact, in the whole franchise, only the first game and its Ultimate Edition came to the PC. “Gears of War 4” will be the third game of the franchise that shall come to the PC.
While players on both PC and the Xbox One would not be able to compete against each other in the multiplayer mode of “Gears of War 4,” they will be able to team up and play co-op versus mode together through the Xbox Play Anywhere program.
Still, many PC online gamers are already waiting for the release of “Gears of War 4” so that they can finally prove how well it is to be played using a keyboard and mouse or a controller.
‘Game of Thrones’ composer in ‘Gears of War 4’
No, there is no connection between the HBO hit TV series “Game of Thrones” and the upcoming “Gears of War 4” but it has already been confirmed by The Coalition that Ramin Djawadi, the composer of the most popular TV show in the world, has agreed to create the score for the upcoming third-person shooter video game. It’s a plus factor for “Gears of War 4,” indeed.
In a recent statement, Djawadi said that he wanted to stay in the directions fans know but he also wanted to bring his own style to it, reports Rock, Paper & Shotgun.
The musical scoring for “Gears of War 4” is not the first time that Djawadi has gone into video games. He had experience as a sound technical with Look Glass Studios for games like “System Shock” and “Thief” back in the 90s.
He was also part of the musical scoring team for the theme of the video game “Warcraft,” the “Iron Man” soundtrack and scores for the TV series “Prison Break” remake and “Westworld” on HBO.
