Wall Street Journal notes filming for Season 7 will start later this summer with some scenes to be shot in Northern Ireland and other parts set to be filmed in Spain and Iceland.
Previous seasons have all premiered in April but the seventh season will likely to premiere in May or June, Variety reports.
This means that the upcoming season won’t be eligible for next year’s Emmy Awards, a shock to many fans. HBO states that while it was a risky and bold decision, the network follows what the creators think is best for the show.
Another change for the upcoming season is that it will only consist of seven episodes, three episodes shorter than the usual episode order.
It was also announced that the critically-acclaimed series will end after its eighth season. HBO states that as much as they wanted the show to surpass more seasons, the creators think that the story will come to the end after Season 8.
Showrunners have stated after the Season 6 finale that they envision the show will last at least 13 more episodes. If the showrunners will follow this, then the eighth season will most likely consist of six episodes only.
“Game of Thrones” has been nominated 23 times for this year’s Emmys. The Emmy Awards will happen on September 18 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles with Jimmy Kimmel hosting the show.
