‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 to See Euron Greyjoy Contending for the Iron Throne!

The Iron Throne in the popular HBO TV series “Game of Thrones” is currently being held by King Tommei Lannister Baratheon amid claims from other groups.

During Season 5 last year, the claims to the throne have been whittled down to two including Daenerys Targaryen and Stannis Baratheon. But Stannis and his weary army were defeated by Ramsay Bolton and his army outside the walls of Winterfell, leaving only Daenerys to stake her claim to Westeros.

According to latest reports, there will be a new contender to the Iron Throne and it is no other than Euron Greyjoy, to be played by Danish actor Pilou Asbaek.

Euron Greyjoy is the brother of Balon and Aeron and uncle to Theon and Yara. Tyrion Lannister once mentioned him during Season 1 of “Game of Thrones” when he met and told Theon that his uncle was responsible for burning the Lannister fleet at Lannisport during the Greyjoy Rebellion, details The Week of UK.

The family storyline of the Greyjoys is one of the big omissions and largest deviations made by “Game of Thrones” from the fantasy novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire” by critically-acclaimed author George R.R. Martin. Reports have it that Season 6 of the TV series, which will premiere on HBO in April, intends to remedy the loophole with the introduction of Euron Greyjoy.

A despicable antagonist

According to movie fans and critics of “Game of Thrones,” Euron Greyjoy could become a replacement for Stannis Baratheon as the new ardent pursuer of the Iron Throne and he could prove to be a rather despicable antagonist, worst than Stannis.

Euron Greyjoy is also known as the Crow’s Eye because of the eyepatch he wears over his left eye. Euron is a cunning military leader who alienated himself from the Greyjoy family after raping his brother’s mistress and commandeered a pirate ship by ripping out the tongues of all the crew members and rendering them all mute.

Reports have it that when he returns to the Iron Islands, he will be claiming himself as King of the Isles and the North.

Critics describe Euron Greyjoy as possibly the most callous, morally corrupt, and hedonistic character in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” mythology.

In a recent interview, Aebaek refuses to say anything about the character he will be playing in Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” and simply said that there is no one like Euron Greyjoy.

Singing a different tune

Immediately after Season 5 of “Game of Thrones” last year, Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark in the TV series, was quoted in an interview that Jon Snow is dead and gone for good.

But now that word is out that Jon Snow will be back and that he is actually featured prominently in the Season 6 poster and trailers, the British actress is now singing a different tune. However, her answer is still a bit on the cryptic side because she is saying now that Jon Snow is going to be back but she is not sure if the character will be back alive, notes Vanity Fair.

She also talked about her character Arya on her sometimes-boring plot during Season 5 and she also asked like most fans did that why is her character still sweeping floors during the past season.

But she gave an answer to it nonetheless when she explained that the slower parts of her storyline were worth it because they all lead up to the big confrontation with Meryn Trant towards the season finale.

game of thrones

As previously reported, Arya will be blind during Season 6 and her character will have to struggle in the upcoming season as sort of punishment by the House of Black and White for killing Meryn Trant.

Meanwhile, for the first time since “Game of Thrones” hit the small screen on HBO nearly six years ago, fans are being deprived of the usual loads of spoilers for the upcoming sixth season of the show.
