‘Game of Thrones’ Season 6 Promises to Bring in More Excitement and Surprises as Show Receives 24 Emmy Nominations

During the recently-concluded ComicCon 2015, the cast members of the hit American TV series “Game of Thrones” on HBO confirmed that they already have the scripts for Season 6 of the show, due to air in April next year.

Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke, who plays Cersei and Daenerys in the series, respectively, confirmed that every time they get the script of the show prior to filming, they are always taken aback with the elements and twists that have been incorporated by the writers.

Headey said that she often quips ‘Whaaat!?’ after receiving and reading the script and it’s always been like that for the past six years, saying that it’s like reliving the same feeling over and over again.

She added that she is one of those who looks forward to the filming of the series. Despite her current delicate state of being pregnant, she says that she is raring to go filming for the series.

During the ComicCon, Headey also said to the fans that the show is going to hit them with mind-boggling and sense-tingling thoughts in every episode of the upcoming Season 6 as each promises to be more mental than the last.

For her part, Emilia Clarke feels that Season 6 is surreal as hell. She said that she finds it funny that the show has so much depth that she is only beginning to comprehend as of late. She said that every year the scripts come in and she feels like she’s taking on a different character because it always feels new and exciting.

She also feels lucky and insanely privileged for being part of a terrific show and she could only thank writers David Benioff and Dan Weiss for their good writing on the series. She is in fact hoping that the two will get the writing win at the upcoming Emmy Awards.

24 nominations

Speaking of nominations, “Game of Thrones” actually garnered 24 nominations from the Emmy Awards, which is the most by any other show on TV today.

The highest number of nominations that the show got in the past Emmy Awards was 19 so the current 24 only means that the series has outperformed itself yet again, notes Variety.

Peter Dinklage, who plays the role of Tyrion Lannister, lead the nominations for the supporting actor in a drama category, along with Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke, who are both nominated for the supporting actress in a drama category.

Diana Rigg, who plays Olenna Tyrell, was also nominated in the guest actress in a drama category. Directors David Nutter and Jeremy Podeswa were also nominated for directing for a drama, and David Benioff and D.B. Weiss nominated for their writing in a drama.

Season 6 filming now underway

Filming for Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” has reportedly began early this week and it seems that fans of the show are keenly on the lookout for actor Kit Harrington, who plays Jon Snow in the series.

One of the highlights of the series finale of Season 5 was when Jon Snow was brutally stabbed by his brothers in the Night Watch and he was left lying in the snow, as if his life was passing before his very eyes as the show draws to a close.

Subsequently, the biggest question for the fans is whether Jon Snow would still manage to survive the ordeal. Two episodes back, he was also cheating death as he was battling the rampaging white walkers overrunning the wildings camp at Hardhome. He was able to survive the onslaught as he and some wildings were able to escape Hardhome onboard boats as they head back to Castle Black.
