Full-Size CUV Tesla Model X to Roll Out to Global Retail Markets in the Second Half of 2015

Advance orders

In a recent report by Forbes magazine, at least 20,000 people have already paid $5,000 reservation fee for the Model X, which is twice the amount needed for reserving a unit of Model S.

Although the first prototype of the Tesla Motors Model X CUV was revealed more than three years ago, setbacks in the car’s development particularly the tricky gullwing doors, have pushed back its launching and roll out dates several times.

According to Deepak Ahujasaid, chief financial officer of Tesla Motors, the company has already spent $426 million on capital expenditures as of the second quarter of the year to prepare its Fremont factory for the mass production and rollout of the Model X in the second half of this year.

Tesla has projected to deliver 55,000 cars this 2015 and if it really wants to meet its goal, the company will have to increase production and deliveries of the Model X. It actually took Tesla six months after the initial release of the Model S to begin delivering significant numbers of the car. The company wants to cut the delay to three months for the Model X.

  1. Glad the MX was delayed, now will be released with all sorts of driver and driving assistance.

Plus, those nifty doors, be jealous commoners.
