Many children go to bed in their Frozen pajamas, while listening to “Let it Go”, but there are very few that realize who the person is behind the song. One of the most successful animated movies of all time, Frozen was a hit at box offices all over the world for weeks at a time. Now that the busy holiday shopping season is over, retailers are trying to recover from the whirlwind of customers seeking anything “Frozen” related even up to the last possible minute.
The voice behind the Let it Go song is amazing and even though it is not coming from a young, blonde haired ice princess, it is one that is well known throughout the theater circuit. Idina Menzel is in her 40’s, has very dark brown hair and is a Jewish Long Islander, yet she has one of the most powerful young voices of all time. Besides the Frozen movie, Idina Menzel has been doing musicals for more than 20 years. Her big break came in Rent, she also marked her career with Wicked and now she has a part in the year long run of If/Then.
If/Then happens to be a show that was written specifically for her. The “Let it Go” song has been heard millions of times over the last few months and it is so popular that it spawned a trend on YouTube of tributes from young girls and others that are making there own versions. Idina Menzel has been asked by many interviewers whether she gets recognized by the fans of the movie. Even though she is just a voice, there are some fans that realize she is the person behind it. Idina Menzel said that it depends on what the age of the person is that is asking.
Classic Disney movie songs stick with children for a long time and that is going to be the same with Frozen. Parents all over the world are trying to explain to youngsters who she is and until she belts out a couple of tunes, the children just think she is another mom at the party. Getting ready to do eight shows per week of the If/Then musical, Idina Menzel said that she has a routine and most of the time it does not include talking.
Right now, Idina Menzel said that the toughest thing is making sure she has some time set aside for her 5-year old son, Walker. She is a busy mom and wants to make sure that Walker always get to see the best side of her. When asked about whether her recent divorce from ex-husband Taye Diggs, is affecting Walker, she gets said and explains that she did not want him to have divorced parents.
