‘Frozen 2’ Sparks Up Twitter Debate Between Religious Activists and LGBT Groups on Whether Queen Elsa Should Get a Girlfriend or Not

“Frozen 2” just started a Twitter war!

Following the clamor for Queen Elsa to get a girlfriend in the “Frozen” sequel, religious activists and conservatives have countered the LGBT’s cry for #GiveElsaAGirlfriend with #CharmingPrinceForElsa.

Fans of the movie have exchanged opinions on Twitter using either hashtags to defend their choice on whether Elsa should be gay in the next movie or not.

According to reports, some LGBT groups are pretty adamant in pushing their case for Elsa to be the first Disney character to represent the LGBT society.

Some members of the LGBT community appeal to Disney saying that it’s time their films spark some reality in today’s society and have a character to become their representative.

Even some fans have pleaded to Elsa an LGBT angle in the film’s next installment with one particular fan pointing out that making a film with a queer character in it does not make one’s child gay. Instead, it teaches children that love comes in all forms.

The voice behind Elsa, Idina Menzel herself, recently revealed that she’s up for the idea that Elsa might be a lesbian in the sequel. Menzel says that it would be nice to see Elsa explore her sexuality in the next movie but everything is up to Disney.

To counter the position, some religious groups created a petition on social media that gathered as many as 65,000 signatures asking Disney not to give Elsa a girlfriend and instead, a male love interest.

The petition urged Disney to promote natural family structures and encourage societal values. To promote their message on social media, they used the hashtag #PrinceCharmingForElsa.

Disney has not yet given a comment on the issue but some reports say that the studio should think twice whether Disney films are ready to break the norms and introduce such characters in their films.

Movie News Guide notes that should Disney gives Elsa a girlfriend, “Frozen 2” will definitely be controversial and some might even criticize the film.

According to movie director Chris Buck, Elsa will undergo an emotional journey in “Frozen 2.” Initially, reports said that Olaf the snowman will be Elsa’s love interest, but a massive clamor came for Elsa to have a female love interest instead.

However, these rumors were dismissed when Olaf’s voice actor Josh Gad spoke to the Telegraph and hinted that Olaf will have a female counterpart in the sequel.

There were also rumors saying that Prince Hans will make a return in the sequel and that he will be the love interest of Elsa, adding that forgiveness and second chances will be the main theme of the movie.

Speculations say that Prince Hans will come back to Arendelle a changed man and that he will prove to Elsa that he is worthy of her liking.

However, some fans say that with the way they branded Hans in the first movie, it will be hard to make him look the good guy in the sequel.

Meanwhile, aside from the ongoing Twitter war, it looks like the much-anticipated sequel is pegged to come out in 2018.

Disney has not yet given an official release date for the film, but reports point that it will premiere sometime in 2018, five years after the first movie came out.

Previously, Buck said that they still have a lot of things to do and to work on the film, but the important thing is that they know where they are going with the sequel and they know where the characters will be by the sequel’s end.

The director adds that he takes his movies seriously and that he would like “Frozen 2” to convey a strong message to this generation especially to the youth.

  1. I’m happy that Anna and Kristoff are Getting Married in the second movie but I would love to see Jack Frost (From DreamWorks Rise of the Guardians) as Elsa love interest for the sequel to become boyfriend and Girlfriend imagine what Jelsa Fans from Around the world would love to see it with hard Cold Cash think about it.

  2. If you make Elsa a lesbian, maybe they should go all the way and make her sister her love interest.
