It’s been known for some time now that Disney are working on not one, but two productions with the “Frozen” name – one is the main sequel to the first film, which was only recently confirmed officially in a statement by actress Idina Menzel; the other is a small spin-off based on the main story, titled “Frozen Fever”, which will be a short musical. The exact release date for “Frozen Fever” wasn’t known until recently, but it’s now been confirmed that the short film will be shown together with another major Disney production that’s debuting soon – “Cinderella”.
On March 13, 2015, fans of “Frozen” will get to see “Frozen Fever”, showing a celebration for Anna’s birthday in which Elsa and Kristoff are trying their best to give her the greatest possible birthday present. It’s expected that the story will have Disney’s typical humorous twist, especially given the nature of the humor in the first “Frozen”, although the studio has been understandably secretive about the upcoming short film so far.
What is known for certain is that it’s directed by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck, who were behind the original production. There have been some rumors about plot details, although those have been quite conflicting for the most part, and given Disney’s generally good ability to keep their secrets, it’s probably safe to say that the majority of those rumors were false. In any case, it’s known that “Frozen Fever” will not be a full-length production, and it will have the purpose of generating some hype for the franchise – which could possibly be a hint for the upcoming sequel.
While Idina Menzel recently went on record with a statement that Disney are indeed working on a sequel to “Frozen”, nothing has been confirmed by the studio itself officially yet, and it’s not known when the new film is scheduled to come out if it is indeed in production right now. However, knowing Disney’s general style of releasing their sequels, it’s probably safe to assume that “Frozen 2” is still a long way off, and won’t hit the screen for some time. The actress herself wasn’t quite certain about the state of the film’s production, claiming that she has been in the dark for the most part as well.
If Disney are in fact working on a new “Frozen”, the upcoming release of “Cinderella” and the simultaneous release of “Frozen Fever” could be a good time to advertise that, and fans have been hopeful that they will get to see some hints about the future of the franchise in a few months. Until then, the rumors will probably grow even stronger.
