The sequel to the most successful animated film in history, “Frozen,” is projected to hit global theaters in 2018. But as early as 2014, there have been plenty of rumors and speculations about the possible plotline and new characters for the upcoming movie, indicative of how widely-anticipated “Frozen 2” is.
There has just been a deluge of information on the internet about “Frozen 2” but since Disney has yet to confirm any of those, everything at this point in time are mere speculations.
What seems clear at this point is that co-writers and co-directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee will return for “Frozen 2” and so are the first movie’s main characters including Queen Elsa, Princess Anna, Olaf, Kristof, and Sven.
Most of the speculations about the possible plotline of “Frozen 2” are fan wishful thinking as the only confirmation made by Chris Buck is that he wanted to make the sequel to the most successful animated film in history as a great opportunity to impart a very strong message for children.
Some of the rumors about the movie also border on the absurd including the possibility that Queen Elsa is actually gay and that she is going to fall in love with another woman in the sequel. While it may be a relevant thought with modern times, it is certainly not Disney’s cup of tea to head towards such sensitive subject matter especially when the movie is basically intended for children.
A new female villain
One of the more interesting rumors of late regarding “Frozen 2” is that a new female villain from Arendelle will come out and make life difficult for Queen Elsa and Princess Anna, notes the Australia Network News.
According to the report, the villain shall have powers that are opposite of Queen Elsa’s which could possibly mean that the nemesis could heat things up, perhaps using fire.
While no details have been made officially on this supposed villain, there are also hints that it is also possible that Princess Anna will also showcase her superpower in “Frozen 2,” a notion which Jennifer Lee debunked when she said in a previous interview that Anna’s power in the first movie is love and that’s all there is to it.
However, some fans still believe that in order to make “Frozen 2” more exciting, Princess Anna should have a superpower like her sister too. In fact, there are even reports that she could actually turn to the dark side and face off with Queen Elsa at first.
Though, it seems like a worn out plot by the time it comes out because that is what the movies “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “Captain America: Civil War,” and even “Big Hero 7” are threading – two protagonists going head to head first before patching things up and facing a bigger villain.
It is unlikely for Buck and Lee to go into the same direction considering the level of “Frozen,” plot-wise, and it would be going beyond its scope if it takes on such rather convoluted plot.
Still a cute story
It is likely that rather than going for the complicated, Buck and Lee will go for a cute story for “Frozen 2” the way they already did for “Frozen” shown in 2013 and the short film “Frozen Fever” released in March last year.
Nothing could be cuter than the rumored plotline that Olaf could turn out to be the prince that Queen Elsa would fall in love with since the loveable snowman was her creation in the first place.
Josh Gad, the voice actor for Olaf, said that it would really be exciting for his character if that would be the direction of “Frozen 2” but he says he is not privy as to where the storyline would lead them to, notes The Bitbag.
One of the reasons why up until today many still remember “Frozen” as the most successful animated film in history is because of its chart-topping song “Let It Go” from its excellent soundtrack.
Reports have it that the sequel shall also focus on having the same in order for it to have a strong memory recall just like the original film.
