Initially, when the release of the film had caught on, the news suggested Idina confirming that Elsa will come out as a lesbian in the film who will date Tinkerbell. This was a movement started by the fans themselves wherein a campaign with the #GiveElsaAGirlfriend trended on social media.
The idea received a lot of support from artists like Miley Cyrus and Ellen DeGeneres. It was a good idea to catch on to an aspect that no Disney film has ventured into yet. However, it remains a mystery if Elsa will result in a film crossover as a straight character or gay.
Another expected twist is that Anna might find out about her powers and turn evil. She is rumored to put Elsa and Olaf’s lives in danger after finding out that she is an illegitimate child of the king. Where on the one hand she is seen as the villain who wants to destroy her father’s kingdom, she is also rumored to make Elsa fall in love with her.
The first film portrayed its female lead characters in a very graceful way and was appreciated for its narrative that was built upon sisterhood and feminist ideals. This is why the filmmakers need to be sure of the story they want to put forth in Frozen 2.
