Queen Elsa and Princess Anna lived happily by the end of “Frozen” together with Olaf, Kristoff, Sven, and the whole Arendelle. Now, reports are saying that the upcoming sequel, “Frozen 2,” won’t have a happy ending for the sisters.
Speaking to Movie News Guide, director Chris Buck revealed that he is not going to have a happy ending on the sequel. Instead, Anna, voiced by Kristen Bell, and Elsa, voiced by Idina Menzel, are going to be the polar opposite to each other.
Buck says that the sequel will focus on Anna’s and Elsa’s character development individually. The director says that the most important thing right now is that team behind the upcoming sequel knows where the film is heading with still a lot of things to figure out.
In the first film, Anna and Elsa despite growing up together were really apart as Elsa was forced to be isolated to conceal her powers and keep Anna safe from potential harm. Although, it looks like Disney is not the type who would approve of unhappy endings.
While this doesn’t sound really enticing to fans, especially to children, it can also mean that if an unhappy ending is being planned after the second movie, it could also mean that a potential third film will be made.
The idea is plausible since sequels have been a great trend in film industry nowadays and people love seeing their favorite characters back in the big screen from time to time.
It is important to note, however, that the film is still in its initial stages of development so nothing is official unless confirmed.
What’s definitely confirmed in the next film is that Olaf will get a love interest. The confirmation came from none other than the actor that voiced the fan-favorite snowman, Josh Gad.
In his recent interview, the 34-year-old actor said that he is excited for his character’s venture in the upcoming animated film. Gad also expressed his complete faith in the film’s creative team.
With the film pegged to come out by 2018, speculations about the film have been circling on the internet. As per Ecumenical News, Disney CEO Bob Iger said that the studio is taking its time for the movie because rushing it would cost its quality.
With regards to the plot, rumors say that the film will take a new direction and will have a societal impact.
Speaking to MTV, Buck confirmed that the overall concept of the film is a very strong one. Although, it’s possible that they will tone it down as the main target of the film are children.
Buck went on to say that the heart of the film will still remain with Anna’s and Elsa’s relationship, but will also tackle more issues.
Another persisting rumor is that Prince Hans, voiced by Santino Fontana, will be back and will be the potential love interest of Queen Elsa.
According to Crossmap, Prince Hans will return to Arendelle as a changed man after his scheming ways in the original film.
Elsa’s lighter and funnier side will reportedly be seen in the new film. This is good news since the people of Arendelle have come to terms with their Queen having special powers.
Christian Post speculates that there will be a new villain in Arendelle and this time, it’s a woman. Some reports suggest that it’s Anna who will be the villain this time hence the unhappy ending.
A certain report claims that the upcoming animated film will keep Queen Elsa on the side of goodness and Anna turning evil because of jealousy over her sister’s powers.
However, this looks like a far-fetched plot from how Anna’s character was developed during the first film and its short sequel “Frozen Fever.”

This is not good, kids follows these characters and will be a problem to adapt it.
I think director should go for happy ending, with two sister together.
I am taking example of my daughters they act the movie most of the time and the happy ending scene as well.
