Walt Disney Animation Studios announced that Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee will bring back another story for the well-loved movie “Frozen,” the most successful animated film of all time. The two directors excitedly revealed how confident they are for the storyline of the sequel to the 2013 movie.
During the special screening of the Walt Disney Animation Studios Shorts Collection on August 9, Buck told MTV that he and Jennifer Lee are starting to mold the whole plot for the upcoming sequel. He explained that they are currently throwing ideas around.
Although the directors have already conceptualized a very strong overall idea for “Frozen 2,” they are still working on how to make the sequel a more meaningful one.
Buck admits that they are very excited for the upcoming “Frozen” sequel after the first movie was warmly received in 2013.
The “Frozen 2” directors stated that they were overwhelmed by the first movie’s phenomenon and it took a while for them to absorb what is happening before doing another short film for Disney. Chris Buck revealed that they got the idea for the movie’s sequel while doing the short film titled “Frozen Fever” that was released early this year as a bonus feature for the live-action remake of “Cinderella.”
‘Frozen 2’ to tackle major social issues
In order to create a more meaningful sequel that will become part of each young people’s life, Buck revealed that they will integrate important lessons that will deal with current social issues.
According to the “Frozen 2” director, since the movie has two very strong female leads, it is possible to tackle issues that are being experienced by both boys and girls as well as men and women nowadays. Buck further explained that presenting a film that is funny and entertaining is important, but the messages being injected in Disney films can influence the minds of the young ones.
Since the director saw how essential it is for kids to learn new things and gain awareness through movies, he said that if they cannot present a decent message in the upcoming sequel, then he thinks that they will miss a great opportunity.
It appears that Buck is not only concerned on how to sustain the momentum of the success of “Frozen,” but he also wish to send a clear, upright, and influential message to those who will watch the movie.
“Frozen 2” speculations
In a previous article by The Revoluzionne, some speculations were raised regarding the upcoming sequel of “Frozen.” Some of those include a different Elsa for the second movie, return of the main characters, a major duet between the sisters, Olaf’s probability to have a girlfriend, and even the death of a lead character.
According to Buck, Elsa will realize that she needs to open up and have some fun again since she restricted herself for so long after becoming the ice queen of Arendelle. In addition, the creators already provided a glimpse in the short film “Frozen Fever” of how Elsa will act if she will adapt a funny character.
Regarding the main characters, speculations say that Olaf, Kristoff, and Anna will reprise their roles in “Frozen 2.” However, the director said they will add some cool ideas to the film to make it more appealing.
Meanwhile, after the successful “Let it Go” song in “Frozen,” fans are expecting to have a major duet between Anna and Elsa in the upcoming sequel. If this scene will happen in “Frozen 2,” it will surely be a wise move for the producers since having the sisters sing along side by side is one of the followers’ major requests.
