“Frozen 2” could easily be Disney’s biggest animated release over the next few years if they get everything right. It looks like the studio is planning to take on some brave risks, so hopefully they know what they’re doing and aren’t going to mess it up.
Just because “Frozen” was such a major release is no guarantee that the sequel will automatically be successful, and the studio will actually have to put in some extra work to ensure that they manage to please their original fans while also enticing new ones.
After all, those who were originally drawn to “Frozen” will have grown up a bit and will likely expect a slightly more mature story.
There have been rumors that the sequel could have a darker setting with a more realistic tone to it, and possibly a more serious villain conflict, but we aren’t convinced that they were true. It wouldn’t be too much in Disney’s style to change the tone of one of their major works like that, especially when they know how much attention is focused on it along every step of their way. In fact, they’re probably using all those fan discussions to figure out what to do with the sequel precisely, and what kinds of risks would be appropriate.
