If you follow new movies that are released each week, then you are aware of then new movie called, Foxcatcher. The movie is a true crime drama that stars Steve Carell, Channing Tatum, Mark Ruffalo and Vanessa Redgrave. The movie was released recently and was expected to make the cut for Best Picture at the Oscars but that is not the case, according to sources. That is just one of the news headlines that you can read about this week.
The other news headline behind the movie Foxcatcher, is the apology issued by the person that the movie is reportedly about. Foxcatcher is based on true events and the tragedy that found the very wealthy du Pont family. The du Pont family went through a very tough time that started with the hiring of the 1984 Olympic wrestling champions, the Schultz brothers with hopes they could help train those in the United States that wanted to advance to the Olympics.
The movie was left out of the Best Picture running for the Oscars, but that does not mean it will not win for the other nominations. Foxcatcher was nominated at the Golden Globes for Best Picture, for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Director at the Oscars and is the first to have the Best Director but not the Best Picture nomination since 2008. The true events are truly tragic for the du Pont and Schultz families, but now that the movie is out, the Schultz family had something to say.
According to the real life March Schultz (played by Tatum in the movie), the director of Foxcatcher portrayed him inaccurately in the film. Mark was clearly upset about how the movie was making him and his, now dead, brother look and he took to Twitter to make that clear for others. Initially, he called the director a “liar” and that was right after viewers of the movie picked up on homoerotic overtones in the movie, according to online sources.
The anger from Mark Schultz did not last that long as he officially deleted the tweets on Twitter and issued an apology to the director and reversed his feelings about how the movie was made. Schultz said that Foxcatcher was “a miracle” and that he was sorry that he said that he “hated it”, going on to say that the “context of the movie” was hard for him to deal with. The movie likely brought out feelings about his brothers murder and how after that his career was ruined.
