Since 1965, when the first Ford Mustang model hit the streets, the car has been doing very well in the sales department. The company sold more than 550,000 cars in 1965 with the only year more than that being 1966, with 607,000 cars. Today, there is a lot more competition out there and since 2008, Ford Mustang has not eclipsed the 100,000 car mark.
The Ford Mustang is part of American history and has been featured in songs like Mustang Sally, along with a few spots in feature films like Bullitt, Diamonds Are Forever, Gone in 60 Seconds (original) and the Gone in 60 Seconds (remake). The car was also used as part of an advertisement campaign for the Navy back in the 1960’s.
With sales going strong and much higher than that of the competition for now, Ford has a pretty good grasp on the American muscle car market. It will by only after Chevy and Dodge put together a smaller engine powered car that we will see if they can keep up.
