Every installment in the “Fast & Furious” franchise has been pumping up the action more and more from the one before it, and judging by everything that’s been shown about “Fast & Furious 7” so far, it’s taking that trend as far as possible. A teaser for the film showed cars flying out of an airplane and falling down to the ground below, and according to James Wan, this wasn’t some gimmick to draw attention to the trailer – it’s an actual scene from the film that fans will get to enjoy!
According to previews, the film is going to be filled with great action from start to finish, including some serious stunt scenes, as well as tense action bits that will impress even the most serious action movie fans. And the notorious car drop scene, while breathtaking, may not even be the best the film has to offer, according to initial reports.
The scene with the flying cars wasn’t even filmed with any special effects, according to reports from the film’s producers – it actually proceeded exactly as it looks like on film, with the crew dumping a bunch of cars from a C-130, and then filming their subsequent plummet with the help of skydivers. It sounds exciting, even ridiculous to some extent, but it also sounds exactly like the kind of action we would expect to see in a “Fast & Furious” film, so it’s good to see that the producers still haven’t lost their touch with the franchise.
Some critics have been commenting that the film might “jump the shark” with such a scene, and that it’s pushing things too much into unrealistic territory. On the other hand, most fans of the franchise don’t really seem to care deeply about realism – this is an action film, first and foremost, so death-defying scenes and explosive sequences are what should define its quality, not how true it stays to real-life physics and overall realism.
The scene with the flying cars also deserves a note for another reason – it’s one of the last scenes to feature Paul Walker, as it was filmed before the actor’s unexpected and tragic passing, which took everyone in the industry by surprise. The producers of the film have decided against cutting out Walker’s appearances on the screen, and have reportedly even contacted his brother to fill in his part in the remaining scenes that still weren’t filmed. Walker’s fans seem unanimously in agreement with the decision, seeing it as a great tribute to the actor, and believing that it’s exactly what he would have wanted to see, instead of having his contribution to the film swept under the rug after his passing.
