Flappy Bird might be one of the oddest, but very popular mobile games in the last 12 months and if you have not played it yet, you should not even bother. The game is so simple, in terms of design, but it very difficult in terms of playing the game. By difficult, many gamers would call that an understatement. Basically you are tapping your mobile device display to move a bird through a course that changes each time you play and as you play.
It was a few months ago now, but the game was making the developer so much money he took it off the Google Play store because it was not supposed to be that big of deal, to him. Well, the opposite happened and the game was thrown into cult status and people all over the world swore they could beat their friend’s score. In the end, the game was brought back online so that everyone could enjoy it and now so even without your mobile device.
According to reports, there is a Wisconsin based company that just turned the popular mobile game into an arcade hit. The arcade version of the game features a huge, 42-inch display and a single, giant, red button which is used to control the bird and keep it in flight. The arcade version allows players to earn tickets by passing pipes in the game. Those tickets can be collected and used to buy things in the arcade shop.
Flappy Bird is not the first mobile game to be turned into an arcade version. Temple Run was very popular and so was Doodle Jump and both of them have been made into arcade versions. The arcade version is going to eat your loose change for sure, however, there was no word on how many tries you get with a quarter. Typically, one round, or turn will only last you about 5 seconds, 10 if you are really good at the game.
Recently, it was also announced that the game is going to be used to teach those that attend a coding academy on how to code a game in a single day. The school will have courses that teach students, about 30 at a time and provide those students a way to build software within a very short period of time. Encouragement comes from showing students the success that a very simple game has even though the coding would not be that complex and can be done in a short time.
