The season finale of “The Vampire Diaries” Season 6 will air on The CW on May 14 but the promo trailer for the final episode seems to indicate that it will be a post-mortal tribute to Nina Dobrev’s Elena Gilbert character.
Fatality is written all over the final episode of the sixth season of the highly successful American supernatural drama TV series as the 60-second trailer showed key moments out of Elena’s journey from Stefan to Damon and from human to vampire and to human again, notes TV Line.
Now that she’s human again, Elena will have to move past and forget everyone by keeping her distance and stay safe which Stefan did explain to Damon in the penultimate episode of “The Vampire Diaries” aired on May 7.
Journey of a lifetime
As early as last month, Nina Dobrev has formally quit the “The Vampire Diaries” after six years so the creators had to find a way in order to retire her Elena Gilbert character. They finally found a good storyline to do so and it will happen on the season finale of Season 6 of the TV series.
During episode 18 of the series, Elena Gilbert and Damon finally agreed to start a family of their own. That set the character up to leave the show for good by making it appear that Elena will concentrate on making her own family and live a normal human life again.
Nina Dobrev says that she is just trying to be consistent with her character. She says that she always wanted Elena’s story to be a six-season adventure.
Within those six years, Nina says that she got the journey of lifetime through Elena Gilbert’s character.
She recounted that Elena was a human, a vampire, a doppelganger, a crazy immortal, a doppelganger pretending to be human, and a human pretending to be a doppelganger, in the six seasons the character has been in the show.
Over the course of six seasons, Elena was also kidnapped, killed, resurrected, tortured, cursed, body-snatched, dead and undead, but apparently the show still has a few more things in store for the character before she finally says goodbye to the series.
Nina also described that Elena fell in love not just once but twice. She also had two epic soulmates in the TV series. Finally, she indulges fans to hop on the roller coaster ride that is Elena Gilbert’s life and continue following “The Vampire Diaries.”
The 26-year-old actress is also thankful for meeting a lot of new friends in the series which she considers her work family, as she moves on to the next chapter of her life.
