After all, one of the main reasons for making a remake is to allow fans of the previous work to re-experience it in a fresh coat of paint.
Taking away components that defined that original work defeats the whole purpose of the remake, and turns it into a cheap attempt to exploit the brand name for luring new customers.
It’s probably harsh to accuse Square Enix of doing that, as the studio likely has good intentions with this remake. But at the same time, there is hardly any excuse for apparently ignoring what their fans are saying, and going their own way with decisions such as the game’s music and gameplay.
Square Enix are most likely keeping a close eye on those discussions about “Final Fantasy 7” and its remake, so the studio still has a chance to make things right and ensure that it will be a smooth release in all aspects.
They seem to have a lot on their plate right now, so hopefully they won’t lose track of what’s truly important. Otherwise, the huge popularity the studio has in the industry might mean nothing a year from now if they mess up a release as important as this one, and they will find it hard to recover from that situation.
