The rivalry between the “FIFA” and “PES” franchises is still going strong, but it looks like EA have the upper hand for now, at least according to some reports about the sales performance of both games in the UK. There are claims that “FIFA 17” is outselling its rival forty times and more, making it a clear winner on this market.
However, things aren’t so pretty for EA in general, as the game has also been under attack by some fans due to some of the changes introduced in its gameplay. More specifically, players were disappointed by the removal of the Journey mode, and swarmed online stores like Amazon to leave poor ratings for the game.
According to some observers of the situation, this treatment is not fair towards EA, as 1-star ratings indicate that the game is broken as a whole, not that one feature is missing. Still, anyone who’s had to deal with gamers on a regular basis should know that they can be quite impulsive in their responses, so this shouldn’t really come as a surprise to anyone.
EA have also gotten into trouble due to a minor issue with the game’s design, as they accidentally used a real-life Twitter handle for an imaginary account in the game. The person behind the account was very displeased with the situation and requested that EA take his name out of the game.
However, after EA accepted his requests and claimed that they would remove the Twitter handle in an upcoming patch, the Twitter user started making more serious claims, stating that EA should admit that they were wrong and they had made a mistake, and that they should apologize to him more directly.
He went on to say that he had been exposed to some nasty behavior as a result of the incident, although it’s hard to verify exactly how much he has suffered. In any case, it’s definitely true that he has a point about the use of his Twitter handle in the game, but as long as EA take measures to remove it in a timely manner, the situation shouldn’t be blown out of proportion.
Overall responses to the game have been very positive, despite the attitude of fans online. Critics have praised EA for the improvements to the gameplay and visual quality, and many are happy with the overall direction of the company.
The graphics of “FIFA 17” in particular have been the subject of a lot of discussion, and both players and critics agree that the developers have done a lot to improve the experience in this regard. Eye candy has always been an important feature for the “FIFA” franchise, as it adds a lot to the immersion potential of the games, and it’s good to see that EA are still taking it seriously.
The studio is known for their hard work on the engine powering the franchise in recent years, and the same technology has even been used in “Battlefield”, one of the most beautiful modern shooters in the eyes of most critics.
It’s not without its flaws, on the other hand, but we expect that EA are going to address those problems with patches in due time. Players have been very active in submitting feedback about the current state of the game, and it shouldn’t take too much for EA to figure out what needs to be fixed.

Fifa will always outsell PES because fans prefer licenses to great gameplay, i only play PES because of the gameplay but i do wish Konami would step up a huge effort in presentation, modes, and commentary! The pitch is ours crap is getting stale already!! Konami need to step it up in all phases of the game in order to compete with EA!!
yea I agree, even though I started to play PES again after a 10 year hiatus and I’ve never played FIFA, FIFA will always outsell PES due to the licenses.
I don’t mind at all that PES doesn’t have the licenses because they have the option to add the kits, names, stadiums etc to the game, sure it might seen like an incomplete game but that’s the way the PES series has always been since the SNES era so I understand why the series are not appealing to most people worldwide and this gets reflected in the sales.
As long as Konami continues to release PES games with good additions to the gameplay, I’ll be eager to try the next version of it. I don’t mind what EA does with the FIFA series, EA can even become more lazy and copypaste the previous version of their FIFA games if they want, add a new feature and release it as FIFA 18, 19 etc in the next FIFA games and they will still outsell Konami due to the licenses which i understand.
One of the important issues that Konami does not address and never will and it’s hurting the franchise in sales as well is their online servers which are crap. They still use P2P so you can expect a lot of cheating and laggy matches when playing online which I think, it’s an issue that is non existent in the FIFA games so is that as well.
