“The Walking Dead” premiered in 120 countries during the same week that it aired in the US. Advertising campaigns for the movie included organized zombie invasion events worldwide. AMC and Fox International Channels arranged a zombie invasion event string which included major cities worldwide, all the way from Hong Kong and Taipei to Los Angeles.
Other marketing strategies included a making-of documentary, mainly dealing with the first episode, which was released on the show’s official website, and a motion comic based on “The Walking Dead” original comic issue.
The extensive marketing campaign also included the production of action figures of the main characters in the series. McFarlane Toys created figures of the Season 1 main characters, Rick and Darryl, adding a zombie figure to the collection, mainly meant to resemble the characters of the series.
“The Walking Dead” Season 1 began with lieutenant Rick Grimes waking up into the world already invaded by zombies. The new angle of the new series “Fear of the Walking Dead” will capture plot twists that have lead to the state of affairs of the original series.
