The new Fast & Furious Supercharged ride at the Universal Studios Hollywood has been in the works late last year or even before the “Fast & Furious 7” hit the big screens on April 3.
But the interactive adventure will only be open to fans and park enthusiasts on June 25 and shall further build on the success of the movie, which is officially the fourth highest grossing film of all time with its $1.51 billion worldwide box-office haul.
Indicative of how the new park ride adventure is intertwined into the movie franchise, Fast & Furious Supercharged ride actually features appearances of “Fast & Furious” stars including Vin Diesel as Dominic ‘Dom’ Toretto, Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Ortiz, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson as Luke Hobbs, Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce, and Luke Evans as Owen Shaw.
According to /Film, the new attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood is like a shot of nitrous oxide. Those who have been following the “Fast & Furious” movies over the years know that the compound is being used to give cars a boost of speed.
While the attraction looks normal like a classic theme park ride, it will eventually get into a mode like it has taken on a nitrous oxide so it will become crazy fast and great. The suspense element for riders is that they do not know exactly when the boost on the ride will happen and will surely catch them by surprise. But as much as it is fast, the ride will also be over shortly.
Fast & Furious Supercharged ride is the finale of the Universal Studio Tour, the iconic tram ride that takes park guests from the back lot of Universal Studios Hollywood through a lot of memorable film locations and settings including “Jaws,” “Psycho,” “King Kong,” and the like.
Uneventful until the last five minutes
Like a 48-minute four-quarter basketball game where the crucial portion is always the last two minutes of the last quarter, the Universal Studios Tram tour is rather perfunctory touring so those wanting to get excited would not see anything happening for the next 50 to 55 minutes.
The first 55 minutes will be all about Universal Studios and its rich film-making history like a trip down memory lane with all the props used in blockbuster movies of the studio including vehicles used in “Fast & Furious” movies and the currently-showing “Jurassic World.”
Towards the penultimate part of the tour, Jaws comes out of the water, and the tram will pass by a 1970 Dodge Charger parked on the side of the street. The tour guide, who is part of the act, will call security and a video will pop out where security personnel say they will check it out.
The tram will then enter Whoville and when it passes the Bates Motel, another video break will pop up five minutes later. This time, it’s an FBI agent who shall confirm that it’s the car of notorious criminal Dominic Toretto and the advice is not to engage as he is dangerous. The tram continues through the “War of Worlds” where there will be another video break. This time it’s FBI agent Luke Hobbs and he will say he will take control of the tram because criminal Owen Shaw wants a witness onboard.
Hobbs will direct the rider to a garage to hide and after 55 minutes on the tram, the park guest enters the Fast & Furious Supercharged ride where he will get the best thrill of the Universal Studios Tour. Unfortunately, because the ride is quite fast, it will be over in a jiff.
