In separate interviews, Michelle Rodriguez and Vin Diesel confirmed recently that the next installment to the “Fast & Furious” franchise will go back to its roots about car racing.
Michelle Rodriguez, who plays Letty Ortiz in the franchise, says that it was actually the idea of the late Paul Walker to bring back the movie back to its core, which is racing.
She recalls that Paul always complained about the special effects and the blue screens so instead of focusing on CGIs, the concluding trilogy will go back to its roots, which shall be again considered as another tribute to Paul Walker’s vision, details Realty Today.
For his part, Vin Diesel, who takes on the role of Dominic ‘Dom’ Toretto in the franchise, made the confirmation about the plot of “Fast & Furious 8” when he made his first guest appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” and said that the next installment will be just like the first movie.
It can be recalled that the first movie of the franchise was all about car racing, which was used by Dom’s group to camouflage their illegal activities in hijacking trucks making cross-country deliveries. Back then, Paul Walker’s character Brian O’Connor was an undercover law enforcer out to bust Toretto and his group.
In the end, O’Connor decided to leave the force after he became part of Toretto’s group and even falling for Dom’s younger sister Mia, played by Jordana Brewster.
No idea what the final title is
Meanwhile, in a separate interview, Vin Diesel said that he still does not have any idea what the final title of “Fast & Furious 8” would be although he keeps referring to the movie as “Fast 8.”
He says he refers to the upcoming movie, which is slated to be released to global theaters on April 14, 2017, as “Fast 8” because he gets a little lazy with titles like most others do.
Diesel explained that “Fast 8” is never the official title. He said that he was actually thinking of “Red Line” because the upcoming movie will all be about car racing and stuff.
A few months ago, Vin Diesel was also saying that the upcoming movie can be shortly referred to as “F8” which can also be read as fate, citing that its success is already written in the stars.
New characters in the rumor mill
A lot of names have been floated as possible new cast members ever since “Fast & Furious 8” was confirmed just months after the box-office success of “Fast & Furious 7,” which is now officially the fifth highest grossing movie of all time.
Because of the box-office achievement of “Fast & Furious 7,” it is now the biggest movie franchise of Universal Pictures to date and the company only wants the best for its goldmine.
Some of the names that were already brought forth include Eva Mendes, Helen Mirren, Ruby Rose, Angelina Jolie, and Cara Delevingne.
It seems that the first four actresses appear to have a clear shot in joining the franchise as new cast members for “Fast & Furious 8” while Angelina Jolie and Cara Delevingne appear to be fan wishful thinking at this point, notes Enstarz.
Michelle Rodriguez was also quoted as saying that she would want Angelina Jolie to join the franchise because she is very capable of taking on a badass character just like her Letty Ortiz.
And the latest names of possible new cast members who have just made it to the list quite recently include Idris Elba of “The Wire,” rapper Wiz Khalifa who according to rumors would like to follow the footsteps of Ludacris to superstardom, and UFC woman’s lightweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
It can be recalled that UFC woman’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey was part of the cast of “Fast & Furious 7” and it seems that Rousey has just endorsed Joanna for “Fast & Furious 8” because she is such a little ninja and would be a cool addition to the franchise.
