In an interview last month, Vin Diesel has confirmed that “Fast & Furious 8” will be the first of the final trilogy to conclude the successful movie franchise on a very high note.
Diesel made the confirmation as movie lead actor and producer when he guested on “The Tonight’s Show with Jimmy Fallon.”
The action star, who plays Dominic ‘Dom’ Toretto in the film series, was quoted as saying during the talk show that three more movies for the trilogy and that will close the “Fast & Furious” film franchise. With its $2.3 billion box-office haul for all of the seven movies and the most successful one in the stable of Universal Pictures, it is only fitting to give the franchise a graceful end.
It was also during the show that Diesel confirmed that the setting of “Fast & Furious 8” will be in New York City and not in Los Angeles as previous speculations put it.
However, it seems that recent developments appear to have made changes on the previous plan to end the franchise after three more movies.
Breeding of possible spinoffs
In a more recent interview with Variety magazine, Vin Diesel said that “Fast & Furious 8” may be the start of the trilogy to conclude the film franchise, but that does not prevent them from producing and coming out with spinoff movies.
While Diesel did not specifically mention who the possible characters will take the limelight in the possible spinoffs, speculations say that it could be Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s character Luke Hobbs. It is also possible that the spinoffs may also include the character of Kurt Russell’s Mr. Nobody because it is full of mystery, notes the Parent Herald.
There is also the possibility of having a spinoff to feature the Shaw brothers, Owen and Deckard, played by Luke Evans and Jason Statham, respectively, who are obviously big action stars themselves.
Some others are also suggesting a spinoff story about Han Seoul-Oh, played by Korean actor Sung Kang, and Giselle Harabo, played by Gal Gadot, which is quite interesting as well.
The rest of the cast like Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez as Letty Ortiz, Tyrese Gibson as Roman Pearce, and Ludacris as Tej, can certainly carry their own spinoff movie if given the opportunity.
Paul’s possible reappearance?
The ending of “Fast & Furious 7” saw Dominic Toretto and Brian O’Conner, played by Cody Walker and some CGI on behalf of the late actor Paul Walker, racing down the side of the mountain to the tune of the song “One Last Ride” of Charlie Puth.
There is no better way to send off Paul Walker than that sentimental ending in “Fast & Furious 7” that had both the cast and the production team, as well as the fans who have watched the movie, quite teary-eyed.
So when rumors started going around that Paul Walker’s Brian O’Conner character will be back in “Fast & Furious 8,” it did generate excitement among fans of the franchise but those who know better believe that the speculations do not have a good leg to stand on.
According to the latest reports, the producers of “Fast & Furious 8,” which is due to hit theaters on April 14, 2017, are reportedly contemplating of bringing back Brian O’Conner on the big screen through numerous flashback scenes, cites the Christian Today.
And in order to do that, the producers will reportedly resort again through CGI and computer imagery and possibly another stand-in by Paul’s brother, Cody.
