Veteran actress Helen Mirren has already been confirmed to play a part in the eighth installment of the car racing action ensemble franchise “Fast & Furious” and she really wanted to drive a fast car. But unfortunately for the British Dame, she would not be sitting in the driver’s seat and driving a fast car in “Fast & Furious 8.”
In a recent interview, Helen Mirren said that she really wanted to rock a muscle car or two but unfortunately there is none of such part for her on “Fast & Furious 8.”
But she is taking the bad news light-heartedly, saying that she is one of the few people on the set who knows how to drive a gear shift car. She even jested that she really doubts if Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson knows it. She said that she knows a lot and she also knows how to double de-clutch, eliciting laughter from her interviewer.
Apparently, even before she was taken on by the franchise, her role was already set and there shall be no driving at all for her, notes the Christian Times.
Part of her great ambition
In an interview last year, Helen Mirren said that it was her great ambition to be a part of the “Fast & Furious” franchise and she wanted to be a mad driver in the blockbuster movie series.
What seems clear at this point is that Mirren will not be playing the villain role in the film due to hit theaters on April 14, 2017 contrary to previous rumors that she will help in breaking out Deckard Shaw, played by Jason Statham, from prison.
Apparently, she will be helping the gang of Dominic ‘Dom’ Toretto, played by Vin Diesel, so she would be one of the good guys in the film. The main villain role has reported been taken on by award-winning actress Charlize Theron.
Helen Mirren will start filming for “Fast & Furious 8” this week and she said that she is getting very nervous stepping into the set, which is in stark contrast to her pronouncements and seeming excitement in previous interviews.
She explained that when she is going on to a set with people who have been doing the thing for so long, they all know each other. She added that they have worked together so they know what they’re doing and she would be like the newcomer or the newbie.
Filming news every Friday
Incidentally, The Rock also shared a new behind-the-set image of “Fast & Furious 8” showing his character Luke Hobbs in handcuffs and prison uniform, which indicate that he may get into some trouble in the next installment of the film.
Since the start of filming of “Fast & Furious 8,” ‘Fast Fridays’ have become a regular thing, offering inside looks at the stunts, locations, and behind-the-scenes actions and pieces on the movie set.
Last Friday’s peek gave fans a close look at all the cars that they would find in the Toy Shop where Dom Toretto and company keep their impressive array of gears, reports Collider.
Director F Gary Gray was game enough to give fans a video tour of the Toy Shop, which is packed to the brim with excellent vehicles including Bentleys, Maclarens, Maseratis, Jaguars, and one of the most technologically-advanced assault vehicles on planet earth.
Gray also managed to show a race boat and a cherry red Corvette to keep things really classic.
As a film franchise about fast cars, death-defying car chase is the bread-and-butter highlight of all of the past seven films of “Fast & Furious” movie series.
The upcoming eighth installment of the franchise, “Fast & Furious 8,” shall naturally have the same car chase scenes, only this time, it would be set in an icy cold surrounding.
Film producer Universal Pictures has recently released some of the vehicles used by the cast members during the filming of “Fast & Furious 8” while in Iceland and the cars all look trendy and sleek in design and obviously very fast.
