With the seventh installment to the very successful “Fast and the Furious” movie franchise hitting theaters on April 3, action star Vin Diesel took time off in a recent interview to pay tribute and honor deceased co-star and good friend Paul Walker.
Vin said that he is going to keep Paul Walker’s memory alive through his son Vincent. He said that he will explain to his son that there’s only one Paul Walker in the universe and that he was very lucky that they have been friends for the last 13 years. Diesel said that he will cherish that remarkable and almost brotherly bond with Walker for the rest of his life.
The action star added that he will tell his son that it was Paul Walker who made him go to the hospital in time to receive him, as a newborn baby.
Vin deeply remembers the time how Paul made sure that he made it to the hospital delivery room to personally witness the birth of his baby boy Vincent, details Yahoo! Celebrity.
Important being a father than an actor
The “Riddick” actor also recalled how Paul Walker considered fatherhood being more important than acting for his good friend.
Vin recalled that they were filming a scene back then for “Fast and Furious 5” somewhere in the middle of a bridge in Puerto Rico. The filming was cut intermittently by rain but Vin was aware that his wife is already going on labor in a New York hospital
When he got word from New York that his wife’s water had broken up, he told Paul about it, who never hesitated in telling him that he has to get out of Puerto Rico and fly to New York right away. He recalled Paul saying to him that the decision is not even a deal but a closed deal already.
His friend also said that they can film the scene later and Vin was pushed to get off the set into a waiting plane in the tarmac. He got to the New York hospital in time to receive his newborn son and he was ever thankful for Paul for that because the feeling he gave him was certainly priceless.
Mythology transforms into reality
Vin says that what made the movie franchise very successful is because it managed to transform the mythology into reality. He said his friendship with Paul starting from 2000 became iconic and it carried on to the film franchise for the next 13 years until the time when Walker died due to a car accident in November 30, 2013.
Almost 16 months after the death of his good friend, Vin disclosed that Paul Walker looks up to him as a big brother and he appreciated him for that.
Vin also shared that filming the emotional final scene of “Fast & Furious 7” had the production crew all in tears because of the dialogue he delivered, which he refused to disclosed during the interview.
He said that some parts of his dialogue was not on the script but Director James Wan kept the camera rolling because everyone knew that he was speaking from his heart. Vin said that when he looked around after the take, everyone was already crying because they know where fiction began and reality ended already.
