The cast of “Fast and Furious” has traditionally revolved around some strong male character types, but we occasionally see a female actor in a more active role in the different installments of the franchise as well. It looks like “Fast and Furious 8” will get at least one interesting addition to its cast from the female side, as it was announced that Charlize Theron will be playing in the movie. Fans of the franchise were excited to learn the news, and it also looks like many people involved in the film itself are eager to play alongside Theron.
It’s interesting to see that some of the film’s cast members are apparently well aware of the generally male-dominated cast of the series, and Tyrese Gibson in particular has reportedly expressed his satisfaction with the fact that the next film will feature another woman in a more powerful role. According to the actor, it’s a much-needed change to the tone of the series as a whole. Could this be indicative of even more changes coming for the next film?
Theron is the only recently confirmed new actress to join the cast of “Fast and Furious 8”, while on the other hand we know of several actors who will be returning from the previous films. Vin Diesel is of course going to reprise his role, as will Dwayne Johnson and Michelle Rodriguez. We’ve also learned that the main antagonist of the film will be played by Jason Statham, a casting decision that got some fans particularly excited.
Statham is well-known for his ability to portray a typical “tough guy”, and some of his fans are only able to associate him with roles of this type. The actor has gradually started to fall into a typical role, a move which some have argued could hurt his career in the long run, but it’s clear that playing these roles works very well for him right now. It makes perfect sense to see him as the main villain of “Fast and Furious 8” too, as his chemistry with some of the other actors from the cast is sure to deliver some explosive results.
The film’s production is reportedly coming along nicely, even though some fans expected problems to come up along the way. The death of Paul Walker hit everyone pretty hard during the filming of “Fast and Furious 7”, and it was not even clear if the producers would want to continue the franchise after that. There was some fear among fans that the seventh movie could be canceled, putting an end to the series as a whole, but thankfully Vin Diesel and the rest of the crew have decided to keep up their work. Some fans claim that they find it hard to imagine a sequel without their favorite actor, but for better or worse, it’s happening – so we can just kick back and enjoy the show once the film is out.
If we see Charlize Theron playing the role of an antagonist alongside Jason Statham, this could potentially be a very interesting mix. We’ve already seen what the actress is capable of, and the skills of Jason Statham are not really doubted by anyone at this point, so a mix between the two could be the perfect addition to an already impressive line of villains in the history of the franchise.
