The release of the new “Fantastic Four” has been the subject of a lot of discussion by fans who’re eager to see how the reboot is going to work out. And of course, a lot of attention is focused on one of the main characters in the film, The Thing. Many fans are curious to see how he’ll look in the new version, and while most were expecting that there would be a special major reveal for that character, something quite different happened.
Billboards have started coming up in various locations advertising the upcoming film, but perhaps a bit strangely, they do so with images of The Thing. So, in effect, Fox have revealed the new character without actually giving him any spotlight attention, leaving fans to wonder if that’s the major revelation they had been waiting for.
Some critics have also pointed out other peculiar details about the new poster, such as the strange appearance of Kate Mara’s head, which was apparently composed from several separate images. However, the main focus was still on The Thing, as everyone has been discussing what they’re seeing on the poster. And so far, reactions have been mixed. The poster doesn’t really show him in a lot of detail, due to the relatively low resolution, and it’s also obviously a static image, so it doesn’t give any idea of how the character is actually going to behave.
Nor does it indicate how he’ll interact with the other characters, which is perhaps the most important detail about The Thing that fans have been curious to see. There are many different ways a unique character like this can be handled, and it’s important to actually give him a properly developed personality if fans are to like him, instead of relying on special effects.
Right now, many fans are hopeful that Fox are going to at least patch up the situation by releasing a more detailed image of the character, or perhaps even a video clip showing him in action. They’ve already revealed his existence anyway, so it doesn’t make much sense to keep pretending that he’s some sort of major secret. It’s not clear what their marketing intentions are with regards to The Thing, but hopefully they know what they’re doing.
There have been rumors that Fox are watching the situation closely and are planning to respond to the criticisms shortly, but we don’t know if they’re going to actually give us any new information. It would definitely be great news for fans waiting for the reboot. But if they don’t, we’ll have to wait a few more months to see what the finished film will look like once it’s released.
