Excitement of fans over the upcoming release of “Prometheus 2,” the sequel to the highly successful science fiction thriller film in 2012, is almost going fever pitch similar to a musical crescendo on its penultimate part.
Director Ridley Scott has been taking much of the cudgels for the promotion of the movie every opportunity he can get. He was even talking about “Prometheus 2” during the press rounds for the movie “Exodus” in December last year, notes Scified.
Plot details
During the interview, the reporters segued to “Prometheus 2” and surprisingly, Ridley was more than willing to discuss some of the key details of the upcoming movie, due to hit the theaters on March 4, 2016.
The director revealed an insight on one of the major characters in the sequel, David the android, played by Michael Fassbender.
He also talked about how the sequel shall focus on Elizabeth Shaw, played by Noomi Rapace and the already decapitated David as they continue to search for the Engineer’s homeworld.
Scott also hinted the possible brewing of intimate but otherwise unorthodox relationship between Elizabeth and David because of the android’s manipulative personality and potentially malicious motives.
The director added that David is really very dangerous in “Prometheus 2” yet he is also very seductive so there is a possibility that he might convince Shaw to put his head back on to his body, discloses Scott.
Not meant to please others
Also during the same press interview, Ridley also downplayed the opinion of some critics for the upcoming film saying that he has not been reading any news on the press when he got criticized big time for his work on “Blade Runner.”
The director said that he does not make films to please critics but only the moviegoers and himself.
“Prometheus,” shown in the US on June 8, 2012, made a worldwide haul of $403.4 million thus necessitating a sequel.
The first movie had an estimated budget from $120 million to $130 million and it is expected that “Prometheus 2” would have an even bigger budget than the first movie.
“Prometheus” was set in the late 21st century and the focus is on the crew of the spaceship ‘Prometheus’ which was following a star map discovered among the artifacts of several ancient cultures in earth.
As they search the origins of humanity, the crew of Prometheus lands on a distant world and discovers a threat that could cause the extinction of the human race.
In addition to Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender, “Prometheus” also starred Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green, and Charlize Theron.
Based on the community blog of the “Prometheus 2” website, a good number of fans can hardly wait for the showing of the sci-fi thriller although it is still more than one year away.
