The way combat and overall gameplay works have been praised a lot by players, and it looks like a lot of thought has gone into making the game feel more diverse and unique, giving players more opportunities to spend their time in interesting ways.
At the same time, the way the storytelling works means that each playthrough will be pretty much identical with some minor differences, taking away something that was a staple of the franchise and a major element of all games with that name that came before “Fallout 4”.
Who knows, the DLC might really change things and get the game back on the right track. It’s difficult to tell what Bethesda could be planning right now, as they are keeping quiet about their future developments on the game, but they are most likely considering some interesting options for its additional content.
The studio is most likely keeping an active eye on discussions about the title on the Internet though, and they are trying to figure out what people did and didn’t like in it. Once they’ve gathered enough feedback, they will probably either release some patches, or a complete DLC that changes certain things about “Fallout 4” to make it more suitable for the interests of most fans of the franchise, and gamers in general.
