The special Collector’s Edition of “Fallout 4” will include an actual, working Pip-Boy, an iconic gadget from the game’s universe. And while the device will work with various smartphones, it’s been reported that it will not support large screen devices. It’s a frame that allows the user to insert various types of smartphones like the iPhone 6, iPhone 5, iPhone 4 and Samsung’s Galaxy 5 and Galaxy 4.
After that, the phone functions like the Pip-Boy’s screen and input, showing various details about the user. There will also be a customizable foam inset for those with devices that aren’t supported out of the box, but the Pip-Boy will reportedly have quite the wide device support.
Still, users with large-screen devices will be out of luck. This includes the iPhone 6+ and similar phones, as they are too large to fit inside the casing. Still, owners of those devices will be able to download and use the Pip-Boy companion app, which should give them some of the functionality of the Pip-Boy while also retaining the classic stylish look.
There is still no word on the release of the Vault Overseer app for Android, while the game has been gaining a lot of popularity on iOS, its currently exclusive platform. Players seem to be very happy with how much attention Bethesda have put into the design of this app, and hopefully the studio is going to take note of that and keep making similar additions for their other games as well.
Meanwhile, a dedicated fan of the game has managed to turn a joke into a clever act that got him his own copy, or at least he’ll get it once the game has been released. Seth, inspired by the games themselves, had decided to start collecting bottle caps. Over the course of 7.5 years, he had managed to collect close to 2,240 caps, which he sent off to Bethesda’s offices.
Fans of the franchise probably get where this is going – but for the uninitiated, one of the stapes of the “Fallout” universe is that bottle caps are the main currency in the Wasteland. Bethesda responded when they got the box, and claimed that they will grant the fan his own copy of the game for the stunt.
They asked their other fans to not get the wrong idea though, as they were only giving the game to Seth as a reward for being first with the idea, and they don’t plan on doing it for anyone else.
