“Extant” is created by Micky Fisher and executive produced by Steven Spielberg. The story revolves around female astronaut Molly Woods who returns home to her family inexplicably pregnant after her solo mission in outer space.
CBS placed a 13-episode straight-to-series order of “Extant” on August 7, 2013, doing away with the traditional pilot stage. Production began in Los Angeles, California on February 10, 2014.
The show, which is also a production of Spielberg’s Amblin Television, finally premiered on the CBS television network on July 9, 2014. Exactly three months after the start of “Extant” Season 1, the show was renewed for a second season, which premiered on July 1, 2015.
The TV series has received generally favorable reviews. The show holds a score of 68 out of 100 on Metacritic, based on 31 critics, indicating generally favorable reviews. The show also holds a ‘certified fresh’ rating of 83% based on 40 reviews, with the consensus reading despite many of the show’ ideas were borrowed from other sources.
“Extant” also benefits from a unique approach to some familiar stories and a very popular and strong lead in veteran Hollywood actress Halle Berry.
Season 1 of “Extant” had a total of 13 episodes and Season 2 will have the same number as well. Last year, the TV show was nominated, along with six others, for the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Most Exciting New Series.
