“Extant” had an interesting run during its first two seasons, but the show just wasn’t meant to be in the end, as CBS decided to cancel it and explore other options. Some people have criticized the network’s decision, claiming that the show still had a strong potential, but in the end things are final and “Extant” is not coming back. At the same time, Halle Berry, the star of the cancelled production, is still going to work with CBS on another show that’s coming up soon. This time she’ll be in a different environment as she’ll be playing in a new legal drama.
Halle Berry will actually contribute to the series on the production side, and “Legalease” will focus on various issues of society, going deeper than its legal drama premise would imply. Some people are already excited for the show just from having heard about it in these reports, but we don’t really have many official details for it yet and we don’t know what we can expect. Of course, it should go without saying that fans of Halle Berry already have high expectations for this production and they are looking forward to seeing it on the screen, but it might take some time before we get to that point.
According to reports, the new series is still in the early stages of its production, and the script is yet to be written. So it’s probably too early to say whether it will be any good or not, but that hasn’t stopped the many fans of Halle Berry from speculating, especially with regards to things like who could act in the new series and what they should expect from it in terms of style and theme.
It’s already been revealed that it will have a more serious theme, although we wouldn’t put it past Halle Berry and Steve Lichtman, who will be handling the script, to insert some interesting humorous bits here and there to spice things up. It would be entirely in the style of a show that we would expect to see on CBS as well, on the other hand, so we are as curious as most fans regarding what we can expect to see in “Legalease”.
Meanwhile, “Extant” fans are still discussing the cancellation of the show. It went through some interesting changes during its lifetime, and after the producers were apparently unhappy with the ratings they got from the first season, they decided to change things up and redid the story completely for season 2. This decision however backfired as the ratings went down even further, and many saw the production as a lost cause at this point.
It certainly didn’t help that the second season was a bit controversial among fans due to the many changes that the producers introduced in it, so we don’t know if it was really the best move to do that so early on in the show’s lifetime. Realistically, they could have let things go on for at least one more season with just small changes.
On the other hand, there are also reports that the show has scored plenty of profits for its network during its runtime, and it was actually not a bad decision on the executive side. Of course, that’s rarely enough to keep a production on the air forever, and a show definitely needs good ratings in order to succeed in the long run. Profits are an important metric for network executives, but they are not actually all they’re looking for.
