Evora 400 Supercar is Fastest Road-Going Car from Lotus Yet; To Make Debut in September

While every carmaker in the world is capitalizing on its participation in the upcoming Geneva Motor Show to launch or introduce its latest car design, some others prefer to go on their quiet way to plan the unveiling of their respective latest vehicle designs.

These other carmakers are banking on the features and details of their latest car models to carry them through in their respective markets.

Just like many of its competitors, British luxury sports car maker Lotus is working on something big. But the company can no longer contain its excitement over its latest offering that it has already released the details of its upcoming supercar ahead of its scheduled September 2015 launching, details Motioncars.

Lotus has officially released the details of the Evora 400 supercar, the fifth and latest iteration from its Evora series which the British carmaker introduced for the first time in July 2008.

Two-thirds improvement

The new Evora 400 is a two-thirds or 66% improvement from its predecessor, the Evora S IPS, according to Lotus.

It comes with a supercharged 3.5-liter V6 engine capable of dishing of maximum power of 400 horsepower and maximum torque of 410 Newton-meters or 302.5 pound force feet. The engine is also mounted in the middle of the new aluminum chassis.

As the fastest road-going supercar from Lotus, the Evora 400 can actually go from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.1 second and can go with a top speed of 186 miles per hour.

What makes the Evora 400 fare better than its predecessor is the fact that it is also 22 kilograms lighter. The company made use of plastic composites for its body panel consistent with the philosophy of Lotus that weight reduction can ultimately lead to better performance.

Road car of the New Millennium

Lotus describes the Evora 400 supercar as the most extreme Lotus road car of the New Millennium.

Its lightweight chassis has been lowered and widened to make the cockpit entry and exit to the 2+2 composite body easy.

The supercar also includes ‘Sports’ and ‘Race’ settings that allows for sharp throttle response and lessen intervention of the traction control.

Group Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales explained that the Evora 400 is the fastest road-going Lotus that the company has ever produced. He said that the performance of the Evora 400 is similar to high-priced sports car minus the prohibitive cost.

With its supercar looks and supercar performance, the Lotus Evora 400 is certainly a very good option, if not the ideal first choice, the Lotus CEO said.

Gales added that part of the requirement of building Lotus cars is to make it a benchmark for handling and to be the quickest car from A to B so that it will give the driver a pure and involving driving experience.

Just like other Lotus cars, the Evora 400 is being hand built in England. The carmaker announced that it will increase its production to 70 cars per week by September 2015.
