People have finally digested the Season 1 finale of Westworld and its time to look forward to Season 2. People are already looking for details regarding Season 2. Let’s get right to it. Firstly, it has been confirmed by Jonathan Nolan that Ford is dead. It has finally put to rest all sorts of theories which indicated that Dolores had murdered the founder of the park.
He was recorded telling IGN that it was the real Ford. We did not know that Dolores decided to kill Ford and it that it wasn’t a planned loop by the creator of the park.
Nolan explained that it is not that Ford could have failed to anticipate it. He knows that the outcome could have been predicted, but it was completely her call. For the character, this is a completely bold and new starting point.
Meanwhile, Nolan explained why Ford needed to die. He said that the hosts realized that the only way the creatures can be completely free is for the God to die.
He says that even if it is on a very literal level and Ford’s voice ends up being the last thing, his voice has been established as a complete telepathic control over the park. Ford is the only thing that stands between the guests and the hosts, and as a result, he removes himself from the particular equation.
However, this doesn’t mean that Anthony Hopkins won’t be returning for season 2 of Westworld. While talking with Deadline, Nolan said the one version of Ford is dead. He can return, but he will be playing the host version of that character or be seen in possible flashback sequences.
In interviews, when he was asked about this prospect, Nolan admitted that with this show, one shouldn’t assume anything at all. He said that it was one of the greatest privileges of his career so far to work with Anthony in the first season.
Nolan said in another interview that it is clear how they have established a more superior and advanced ruleset regarding resurrection and death. Therefore, the show and the chances of where it can go are all quite mysterious. Therefore, viewers and fans shouldn’t assume anything at all.
In their live broadcast on Facebook, he was asked by one of the viewers if Ford could have used the fabrication machine to create a host version of himself in his secret laboratory located underground. The question was called really good by Ford, but he decided not to answer it directly but also noted that the sacrifice he made was real.
It is possible that Ford doesn’t see any real benefits in keeping his old aging body alive. He might have fabricated a host version of himself, and that is probably the version that will continue his legacy and life with the immortality of his creation.
According to Jonathan Nolan, their primary objective is to relate an ambitious story in chapters that are season-long, and each of them will come with a different theme and feel. Therefore, people are wondering what will be the unique theme and feel of the second season?
From the looks of it, Season 2 could involve a lot of transcendence and chaos. Meanwhile, Westworld’s ending made all viewers jump from their seats. Inside the park, Ford is like a God to the hosts.
