Emma Watson has recently been confirmed to be taking the role of Disney princess Belle in “Beauty and the Beast”, one of the studio’s latest productions – but while “Disney princess” tends to be associated with a particular stereotype that’s not always portrayed on a positive light, the actress seems to have completely different plans for how she’s going to approach her own performance. Watson is a known feminist and supporter of female rights, and it’s no surprise that she of all people would take a stronger stance in this situation.
Many have been calling her response to her new role inspirational, claiming that this is how any girl in her position should react, and she has been giving her fans and critics even more reasons to adore her through several responses on Twitter, some of which have now been circulating the Internet like wildfire. She was involved in a brief interview on the social platform recently, where she was being asked questions about “HeForShe”, the UN Women program which promotes gender equality with the help of getting men on board.
Among her answers, she told a fan to become an engineer, and she also gave some thoughtful and inspirational response to some of the questions she was asked. She was also very defending of the campaign, rebutting suggestions that it might have a sexist nature, by pointing out the obvious fact that the campaign is promoting gender equality and therefore cannot be sexist in the first place.
She went on to say that she would love to see more women in powerful roles, such as presidents, prime ministers, CEOs and more. On the other hand, she seems to be quite realistic in her views of the situation and how things are going to progress, as she realizes that change isn’t going to just happen overnight, and will require both hard work and patience.
For what it’s worth, she has been doing a great job at making people from both genders feel inspired to help out in the cause and support each other, and it’s great to see that Disney have chosen to give her such a responsible role to represent as well. With the track record Emma Watson has behind her back in terms of professional performances, she’s sure to win the hearts of the audience with her depiction of Belle, so now all that’s left is for Disney to make sure that everything else about the new production is put together flawlessly. And knowing the studio’s meticulous attention to detail, we’re sure that they’re going to do exactly that, and will do everything in their power to make “Beauty and the Beast” the success people expect it to be.
