The film is directed and written by Whiplash’s Damien Chazelle. La La Land is shaping up to be a film that will be hard to beat in the upcoming awards season. The movie has been amazing audiences ever since its premiere at the Venice Film Festival which took place in September. It is also the place where Emma Stone received the Volpi Cup, awarded to her for Best Actress.
On 8th January’s Golden Globe, it has been the frontrunner and received nominations in seven different categories, and it is currently the hot favorite for sweeping the Oscars next year. Moreover, it’s not too hard to see why either. It is a film which portrays Hollywood along with big dreams. It’s similar to the 2012 Oscar Winner, The Artist.
In the movie, everything changes for Stone when she meets Sebastian. Gosling plays the role of a character that has been around for a long time and always trying to make it happen. He also has a hard time accepting the fact that jazz will never become the top of the charts again. As a result, he is making ends meet and trying to earn a living. At the same time, he is doing his best not to compromise everything that he has toiled for.
Chazelle explained that Stone and Gosling speak the same language even though they are their selves regarding performers. They are quite awesome at counterpointing each other.
