Many people have their eyes firmly locked on Bethesda, waiting for any news about “The Elder Scrolls 6”. The studio has been very busy producing new content for “Fallout 4” lately, as well as polishing up the game with patches and bug fixes, but fans of their fantasy-themed franchise are hoping that we will see some official news about the next installment soon enough. Recently, an announcement that Bethesda were looking to hire a new engine programmer immediately sparked rumors that this could be related to the development of “The Elder Scrolls 6”, but not everyone is convinced.
It wasn’t that long ago that we heard Pete Hines explaining the studio’s attitude towards the franchise, stating that they would rather wait for a long time to ensure that the game meets their quality standards, rather than release it in a rushed state just to benefit from the current hype.
Which makes sense too, as Bethesda are one of the studios known for their slow working pace and their tendency to delay releases for a long time. And even if the new position at the company is actually related to the franchise, it doesn’t necessarily mean that we’re going to see the next “Elder Scrolls” game anytime soon.
After all, an engine programmer would be tasked with working on the very core of the game, and many studios typically prefer to have their engine tech ready and finished – or at least mostly implemented – before they start making actual games on top of it.
It’s entirely possible that Bethesda could be looking to give their engine a facelift before commencing work on “The Elder Scrolls 6” too, as this is one of the most common complaints about the franchise and the studio’s products in general. The company are known for their ability to release complex games with huge amounts of content, but they have also perpetually suffered from QA issues, often resulting in buggy initial releases that need a few patches to sort things out.
The engine in particular has always been a major point of criticism for both “Fallout” and “The Elder Scrolls”, and even “Skyrim” was met with some critical responses from fans and reviewers due to its technological state. The game had various issues with its graphics and physics, and combat was described as very clunky and uninspiring.
“Fallout 4” rectified that problem to some extent, but some fans felt like Bethesda pushed the game too far in the direction of a shooter for its own good. Whether one agrees with this or not, it’s still an obvious indicator of what the studio’s programmers are capable of when they want to work on that specific aspect, so we have high hopes for what “The Elder Scrolls 6” will bring to the table.
Meanwhile, Bethesda have announced that they are extending their presence at E3 this year, doubling their scheduled conference. The event will start earlier and will likely see the studio talking about various upcoming games – and of course, many fans have hopes that this also includes “The Elder Scrolls 6”. It would be the perfect time to announce the game, as the release of the third DLC for “Fallout 4” should free up their development resources for the time being and allow them to put some more effort into the other title. Plus, they would benefit a lot from the current amount of hype in gaming communities. There are plenty of other candidates for a major reveal at the E3 event though.
