Even before the Android 5.1 Lollipop firmware update officially rolled out to Nexus devices starting last week, there were already leaked images of a Motorola handset already running on the latest version of the Android.
But until Google confirms the official launching of the Android 5.1 Lollipop on Motorola devices, every handset model of the Japanese tech company is at a standstill.
Most of Motorola’s smartphone already have the problematic Android 5.0 Lollipop on it with the exception of the Droid Turbo which is still being powered by the Android 4.4 Kitkat.
However, the Droid Turbo shall become the first Motorola smartphone brand to go straight to Android 5.1 Lollipop when the mobile operating system officially unravels on Motorola devices soon, notes the Phone Arena.
Not bug-free
The Droid Turbo, which is exclusively distributed through Verizon Wireless, will skip the Android 5.0 Lollipop and all the subsequent updates.
Luciano Carvalho, software engineer at Motorola, confirmed the report. However, he said that the Android 5.1 Lollipop is not necessarily bug-free as a number of reports claimed the firmware update to be. He added that it would be nearly impossible for a complex software running on a complex hardware without any form of bugs.
Carvalho added that because of the different environment conditions and thousands of usage variations, there would certainly be a bug that will crop up in the system sooner or later. He said that the good news is that the Android 5.1 Lollipop has addressed all major bugs, issues and problems that have hounded the Android 5.0 Lollipop almost to no end.
Upon its official roll out, the Android 5.1 Lollipop will bring native VoLTE support to the Droid Turbo although it is not clear when Motorola and Verizon are planning to release it.
The Droid Turbo is being retailed for $149.99 on contract but is priced at $549.99 if it will not be under contract. It is also regarded by some critics as one of the best smartphones that Motorola launched recently.
Noteworthy features
More than bug fixes and performance improvements, the efficiency of the Android 5.1 Lollipop appears to have been enhanced too including some noteworthy new features.
Some of the major improvements that are being brought about by Android 5.1 Lollipop include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth shortcuts, device protection, HD voice calling, dual-SIM support, improved interruption function, heads up notifications, and of course bug fixes.
Wi-Fi connectivity has been a major problem of the Android 5.0 Lollipop. But the new firmware update has done more. It has solved the annoying issue of switching from one Wi-Fi hotspot to another by providing specific connection access from the drop-down quick settings menu.
This can actually be found through the little down arrow below each of the usual Wi-Fi and Bluetooth toggles.
Security has also been improved tremendously as Android 5.1 Lollipop comes with a feature that shall keep the phone locked even if a thief makes a factory reset of the device. Unless the thief knows the real owner’s Google account details, the phone shall eventually become useless.

All of these sounds nice & exciting but there is no clue or estimate when this will be coming for the turbo? I’m sure that I’m not the only droid turbo user that has been waiting and waiting for this software update. Thanks.
It’s great that the Turbo will go straight to 5.1, and I hope it is released soon to Turbo owners. But we who have Droid Ultra, Max and Minis have been left with no word at all when we will might get the Lollipop update. There are many things with the update I am waiting for with great anticipation.
