Right after the Season 5 finale, it has already been made clear by series creator Julian Fellowes that Season 6 of “Downton Abbey” is to be its last
The sixth and final season of “Downton Abbey” will allow fans to receive closure with the story while getting more about the characters.
Director Gareth Neame said that Season 6 will conclude the show in a manner that will not disappoint viewers. He explained that they wanted to close the doors of Downton Abbey when it felt right and natural for the storylines to come together and when the show was still being enjoyed so much by its fans.
Neame promised that the final season of “Downton Abbey” will still be full of all the usual drama and intrigue but with the added excitement of discovering how and where they all end up.
The director hinted that there is a possibility that the series will take a movie adaptation. This was consistent with the pronouncement made by showrunner Julian Fellowes who said recently in an interview that the show may be reborn as a movie or a play or a musical or a ballet.
