With all that in mind, all we can do now is sit back and wait for season 6 to arrive. It’s going to be an exciting winter for fans of “Downton Abbey”, even though they’re about to see their favorite show reaching its conclusion.
What about the future though? The rumor that the show might be followed by a feature-length film is still going around, although the producers have been avoiding the question for the most part.
Every time it’s popped up in an interview or press conference, the answer is basically “it may or may not happen”, which isn’t exactly very reassuring to fans. It’s definitely true that a lot of people would be interested in seeing this become reality right now, so hopefully the producers of the show aren’t going to let this potential go to waste.
Even if no film happens though, the fact that this show went through its seasons with so much success should still be enough consolation for its fans, as they all got to see the development of one of TV’s most memorable productions, and certainly one of the more original TV shows of recent times, in the context of so many sci-fi and modern-themed productions flooding the screen from all directions.
