Downton Abbey Season 5 is nearing release and rumors have started spreading on the internet at a slow but steady pace. This Christmas Special update introduces numerous characters who are to be present this upcoming season along with a few plot details. One of the highlights this season is Lady Mary’s – played by Michelle Dockery – visit to prison to meet Anna – played by Joanne Froggatt. This is rather surprising as Lady Mary hardly leaves the comfort of her in-laws’ castle, let alone visit prisoners!
The makers are expected to try out a different flavor with Anna being in prison this season, as they have already tried something similar with Bates in the previous season and carrying on this tradition with Anna would simply invoke monotony. Lady Mary visiting Anna is rumored to have something to do with it, although, we cannot be certain!
Downton Abbey is anything but repetitive, and this is what keeps the seasons going. Lady Mary visiting Anna has greater significance, as maybe this time she will take a decision and stick to it. Lady Mary breaking convention has an even greater importance in the series, as it portrays modern women breaking the age-old traditions that prevent them from taking the critical decisions.
Downton Abbey enjoys equal popularity with both American and British viewers and the two-hour long Christmas Special episode is eagerly awaited by all. Season 5 goes on air at 9pm on PBS Masterpiece on 4th January 2015, and the fans are waiting eagerly to catch their favorite stars on television.
The crew and cast of Downton Abbey recently visited the United States and fans flocked to catch them live at Hudson Theater in New York where the first episode was aired while the stars interacted with the crowd. Reports claim that the producers are considering filming in America too, considering the growing popularity of the show in the country. However, this is under consideration at the moment and plans are yet to be finalized.
The crowd wanted to know if the Crawleys, the American relatives, would have a more pivotal role in the upcoming season, and this led to the finances being discussed. Gareth Neame, the Executive Producer of Downton Abbey said that an estimated budget of $10 Million was needed to turn the viewers’ wishes of an American plot true., “I am going to consider this opportunity as I have a few influential friends from PBS, who have the necessary resources to turn this into reality.” Gareth said.
