GM have been actively promoting the 2016 Chevy Volt and its many great features, such as the reduced price and better specifications that it brings to the table, but while most people are focusing on the raw performance that the vehicle brings, there might be some other factors that are worth paying attention to. The EPA MPG and MPGe numbers that have been released by the company seem quite impressive, but we don’t know if they are representative of what the car will actually offer.
This question came up after someone noticed that the information about the car’s fuel efficiency has changed from 41 MPG to 43 MPG, bringing the MPGe ratings up to 106 MPGe, as opposed to the 37 MPG / 98 MPGe that the 2015 model had. With that, we also get an improvement in the driving range of the car, up to 430 miles from 420, and then going back down to 420.
GM are still working on their internal tests and are preparing the data for an official release, so we don’t know if these numbers are anywhere close to real. It’s entirely possible that the carmaker is still tweaking the numbers behind the scenes, in which case the final release might look even more different than what we’re seeing here.
There might also be further adjustments related to the car’s different power output, but that doesn’t seem like it’s going to affect the official numbers too much. All in all, we would expect to see the current figures changing somewhat until GM are ready to finally talk about the car’s efficiency in more detail, but at the same time we wouldn’t expect to see any major differences.
The company are likely going to make the official release of their data in July, so there is still some time to go before they talk about that. In any case, it’s probably a smart idea for fans to take a more conservative approach when reading about the new model, as GM are likely going to try hyping it up significantly, and there might be a lot of conflicting information out there over the next few weeks.
That’s because GM are making sure that there is a lot of discussion about the new 2016 Chevy Volt, but at the same time they aren’t releasing a lot of official information about the car themselves, leaving a lot in the hands of those that spread rumors. Because of this, fans of the Chevy brand should take everything with a grain of salt over the next weeks, and draw their own conclusions.
