Does Teeth Whitening Need Industry Regulation or a Change in Society? We will See!

Teeth whitening is one of the latest crazes in the cosmetic industry, and people have been getting more and more serious about it. And while any good dentist should be able to perform the procedure safely and efficiently, there has been a growing number of DIY home kits available on the market, which claim to offer the same benefits for a lower price and less effort.

Of course, people have been purchasing those kits left and right, and the industry has been growing at an exponential rate. But according to some reports, the people running that industry are often not very concerned with the safety of their customers, and are using some downright shady tactics in their marketing and products in order to sell to people.

There have been reports of people suffering from improperly produced kits for manual bleaching, and it’s mostly described as a very painful process, feeling much worse than initially anticipated. While it may not leave any long-term damage, the negative sensation during the process has been enough to turn some people off from the idea, leading them to cancel their teeth whitening process right in the middle of it.

Some people have reportedly grown downright addicted to teeth whitening, and this has had severely negative effects on their oral health. If the procedure is performed enough times with a badly produced teeth bleaching kit, it can actually lead to harm, experts say.

With all that in mind, what’s the right thing to do here? According to most people close to the industry, there is a need for some regulation, possibly from licensed dentists. Teeth whitening kits should be treated in the same way like prescription medications, as they have a similar potential for harm and should be regulated more closely.

Is this going to happen anytime soon though? If it’s to become a universal thing accepted around the world, that’s definitely going to take a long time. But in the meanwhile, maybe it would be a good idea to start educating people about the risks of teeth whitening, and encourage them to seek help from actual dentists instead of relying on DIY kits when they’re interested in the procedure. Because in the end, getting one’s teeth whitened is not that scary and it’s perfectly safe, but only on the condition that it’s done by a professional who knows what they’re doing. Then, it also has a certain cost attached to it, one that some people aren’t quite comfortable with, but in the end, we have to pay for quality when we want it. When it comes to our health, there should definitely be no room for compromise in any way, shape or form.
